Pilsen has been getting a lot of attention from developers this year, and the neighborhood can add one more major residential development to its growing list of projects. According to DNAinfo, Baum Development plans to transform a five story brick building at the southeast corner 19th and Sangamon into an apartment project that will feature 111 rental units and 70 vehicle parking spaces. The developer also plans to add a sixth story to the project, but will need community support for the zoning request. Similar to Humboldt Park, Pilsen has been an area where gentrification concerns have reached a boiling point. However, the area has become a hotspot for young urbanites for its food and beverage offerings and the recently renovated Thalia Hall concert venue. The Pilsen Neighbors Community Council, the group currently reviewing the new proposal, told DNAinfo that the organization has not yet made a decision on the development.
