Stretch of Chicago Riverwalk Extension Opening Tomorrow

New, 3 comments

It's been a long time coming, but reports from the Tribune and Loop North News indicate that a two block stretch of the new $100 million Chicago Riverwalk extension is set to open tomorrow. While construction on the current phase isn't expected to be completed until next month, the stretch of new riverwalk from State Street to Clark Street will be making its grand debut tomorrow—just in time for the long Memorial Day weekend. Included in the extension are various themed "rooms" that will provide everything from kayak rentals to food and beverage. Two of these themed areas—The Marina (from State to Dearborn) and The Cove (Dearborn to Clark)—are also expected to be open to the public this weekend. A third concept dubbed The River Theater will be opening next month.

While the Saturday opening has not been yet officially announced, the Tribune hints that the mayor's office will make an announcement later today. The June opening of all three blocks of phase two will mark the end of the 18 month construction project.
