Architect Howard Van Doren Shaw was quite prolific throughout the Chicagoland area in his day, having designed many homes for Chicago's wealthiest residents, and this turn of the century mansion in Kenwood is a striking example of Shaw's stately style. Built in 1904, this 10,000 square foot Federal style home is one of several Shaw residences in the Hyde Park-Kenwood area, and has just entered the market this week with an asking price of $3.65 million. Previously sold for $1.625 million back in 2003, the home has been extensively updated inside but its exterior still maintains a stoic, old world look. The five bedroom home includes a solarium, a spacious parlor room, seven fireplaces and a 3,000 square foot coach house. While the home's current colorful interior design may clash with its historic exterior, this Van Doren Shaw mansion certainly has plenty of possibilities. The home's official listing offers more info about its history.
