Own the Former Estate of Edward H. Bennett, Co-Author of the 1909 Plan of Chicago

The North Shore is littered with stately mansions and historic homes, but this home has a place in Chicago architectural history. The home was designed and built in 1916 as the personal residence of architect Edward H. Bennett, who co-authored the 1909 Plan of Chicago with Daniel Burnham. Known as "Bagatelle," the French Renaissance-style estate features three buildings on two acres, with the main home weighing in at 9,300 square feet. According to Crain's, the home has been owned and occupied for the last 20 years by Alan Lacy, the final chairman and CEO of Sears, Roebuck and Company before its acquisition by Kmart. The estate with its sprawling manicured landscape is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and features a coach house that was originally built alongside the main house in 1916 and an artist's studio that was added in 1936. This classic North Shore estate has been beautifully preserved, and its price tag matches its size at $4.25 million.
