A community-driven ice rink plan has finally come full circle as the new skating rink for Wicker Park will officially open to the public on December 5, DNAinfo reports. The proposal has been in the works for months, and included a crowd funding campaign that raised over $30,000 for what is being dubbed WickerICE, a 120' long by 60' wide rink for Wicker Park. And while the ice rink plan has been successful in getting off the ground, there's only one remaining hitch — if temperatures do not get below freezing by the opening date, there could be complications or even a delay to its opening. Admission is free for the new public asset, and programming will eventually include family hours, kids-only skating and hockey matches.
