A proposal to build condos next the famed Trump Tower along the Chicago River continues to move along, with new details and renderings of the mid-rise tower finally surfacing. The plan was first revealed nearly a year ago, with developer Belgravia Group announcing that it planned to build high end luxury condos on top of a parking garage at 403 North Wabash Avenue. Now, there are more details and a first look at how the tower will eventually fit in with the wall of skyscrapers that line the Chicago River. Designed by bKL Architecture, the building will stand at only 17 stories and feature a curved shape to offer the best possible views of the Chicago River, Crain's reports. In total, the new development will deliver just 45 new (and spacious) condos, ranging from 2,200 to sizable 3,300 square foot units. And similar to other small scale luxury condo developments being built throughout the downtown area, these units will be quite pricey.
Sales will start next year, with prices expected to start at $1.5 million. The development's larger units with sweeping views will be listed closer to the $3 million range. The new project for River North shares some similarities to the 101 North condo project for Old Town, as well as the 4 East Elm No. 9 Walton projects for the Gold Coast, which are all targeting the high-end condo market with large units in the form of exclusive mid-rise towers. There's no set construction timeline for the project, but with the downtown condo market warming back up, there's a good chance that the project may earn the interest of luxury buyers when sales begin early next year.
