Postmodern Harry Weese Masterpiece on Chicago River Lists for $2.3M

New, 17 comments

Here's a very rare chance to own a Harry Weese-designed townhouse along the Chicago River in the River North neighborhood. Built in the late '80s, the River Cottage townhouse development was designed to invoke a nautical vibe with its triangular, sail-like facade. According to Dennis Rodkin of Crain's, Weese was inspired by a housing project on the Danube in Budapest and borrowed some design elements for this development. Interestingly enough, Weese was not only the project's architect, but was also the developer. Fortunately, the interior still retains much of its original postmodern architectural details and bright colors. According to Rodkin, it's been 25 years since one of the River Cottage units has been on the market. The 4,100 square foot three bedroom property hits the market today with an asking price of $2.3 million.
