Landmark Harriet F. Rees House Preparing for Its Big Move

As a part of the deal the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (McPier) struck with South Loop residents and the city to move forward with its $600 million plan to build an entertainment district around McCormick Place, the landmarked Harriet F. Rees House will first have to be relocated from its current address at 2110 S. Prairie Ave. to 2017 S. Prairie Ave. The schedule for the move has been updated a number of times, but according to the most current schedule, the Rees House's coach house will be moved this week, and the actual home itself will be moved during the first week of November. Workers have been prepping the Rees House and its coach house for the last couple of weeks for the big move. Once all the groundwork has been completed, the Rees House will be loaded up on a massive 29-wheel dolly and rolled just down the street to its final destination. It will certainly be quite a sight to see.
