Walgreens has been on an aggressive growth streak in the downtown areas, setting up shop in historic places and outfitting them with one-off designs intended to suit and celebrate the buildings they occupy. Chicago Tribune's architecture critic Blair Kamin takes a look at some of the newer locations and gives the new design push his thumbs up. It's a good sign that the Deerfield-based chain can bring its design A-game, but the question remains as to when or how the design concepts will trickle down to the thousands of stores in the rest of the country.
