Broadway Mariano's Development to Break Ground in February

New, 12 comments

Last week's Chicago Plan Commission meeting was an important one for the city's skyline, as a few new skyscraper proposals were approved and will soon change the landscape of River North and the West Loop. However, another major proposal that passed the commission vote was the ginormous Mariano's and XSport complex for Broadway in Lakeview. The site has had a bit of storied past, but after sitting vacant for nearly a decade, the lot will finally make way for a new five story, 125,000 square foot mixed-use development. The new Mariano's will be approximately 71,000 square feet in size, and the XSport Fitness center will weigh in at 40,000 square feet. Designed by Antunovich Associates, the new complex will contain 250 parking spaces, with another 30 surface level parking spots west of the site. According to an email to constituents, Alderman Tom Tunney has indicated that the developers are anticipating a February 2015 groundbreaking.
