At $7.4 million, this 5,700 square foot unit at 209 East Lake Shore Drive has become the most expensive home sale of 2014 - so far. The three bedroom, four bathroom co-op was first listed in February 2007, right before the housing crash, at a stately $9.2 million. However, nine months later, the listing was removed. The unit resurfaced this past January at $7.9 million, and sold on June 26th for half a million dollars less at $7.4 million. There are still a number of mega-expensive properties listed for sale within Chicago city limits, notably Oprah's Water Tower Place penthouse, Ann Lurie's monster manse, a gigantic high-level raw space at the Trump Tower and the bonkers Burling Street estate that finally hit the MLS last week. Will this LSD co-op hold the record for most expensive Chicago property sold in 2014? We have about six more months to find out.
