The South Loop's Old Colony Building is prepared and ready to take on a renovation and repurposing that will transform the landmarked Holabird & Roche designed structure into a student housing development. In March, Crain's reported that CA Ventures' (previously Campus Acquisitions LLC) plan for the building would include 111 units, a second floor lounge and a rooftop deck. Today, the plan appears to moving full steam ahead. Back in February, a permit that allowed limited interior structural demo'ing for the building's residential conversion was issued, and this week, a permit that allows the developer to continue moving forward with the full renovation, which does indeed include a roof deck, was issued. According to the permit, the building's makeover is estimated to cost about $25 million. Local architecture outfit Pappageorge Haymes has been tapped to lead the redesign of the historic 17 story building. The Old Colony Building has been the focus of numerous redevelopment plans over the last several years, however, the 121 year old building is finally getting a much needed makeover that will breathe new life into it for years to come. ·Previous Old Colony Building coverage [Curbed Chicago]
