Chicago is continuing its push towards updated and improved infrastructure, and next up on the plate is the 35th Street and Lake Shore Drive bridge that connects Douglas residents to Lake Michigan. According to DNAinfo, construction of the new $18.3 million bridge will begin within the next two weeks. The large suspension bridge will replace a decaying 75 year old bridge at 35th Street, and will span 620 feet long. Designed by engineering and architecture outfit exp (formerly known as Teng + Associates), the new bridge will will share a similar look to the new Washington and Wabash CTA station, which Teng + Associates also designed. DNAinfo reports that the current bridge will be shut down next week, and South Siders can anticipate the shiny new suspension bridge sometime in autumn 2015.
