Portage Park will soon shake off the hulking, triangular Bank of America branch in the heart of its shopping district. The 43,177 square foot branch at 4747 W. Irving Park Rd., as well as a one acre parking lot in the 3900 block of N. Milwaukee Ave., were purchased by Chicago-based Clark Street Development for $10 million and will be demolished and rebuilt as new retail. In line with the area's master plan, the new development is expected to breathe new life into the commercial success and physical appearance of the shopping district, which has been lackluster in recent decades. No word on what the development might look like, but the developer did tell DNAinfo the structure would not house condos or apartments.
