The 606, Chicago's new 2.7 mile rails-to-trails project, has announced that it will be adding a sixth ground-level park to the master plan and is now expecting to completely wrap up construction and open by next summer. In addition to the five parks already planned, the newly announced 4-acre park will be located near the western trail head (Bloomingdale & Ridegway) in Logan Square. Previously, the Chicago Park District, Trust for Public Land and CDOT has anticipated a late 2014 completion of the trail, however due to the harsh winter, the $95 million project is now aiming at a June 2015 opening. The trail is nearly half completed, according to officials. A more detailed construction update can be found on the 606 website. The 606's stakeholders plan on holding an open house tomorrow morning at the McCormick Tribune YMCA (1834 N. Lawndale) starting at 10:30am to provide the public with more details on the latest updates.
