Checking In On Construction Of The New Navy Pier Flyover

It has now been exactly three months since the city broke ground on the Navy Pier Flyover, a new elevated path for pedestrians and bicyclists that is expected to alleviate congestion along the busiest section of the Lakefront Trail. The $60 million project is focused on a section of the 18.5 mile trail along Navy Pier that is downright hazardous at times. The completed flyover will feature a dedicated, grade-separated 16 foot wide path for bicyclists and pedestrians that stretches from the Chicago River Bridge to Jane Addams Park. The flyover, which is the most expensive bicycling and pedestrian project in Illinois' history, will be completed in three phases. The first phase will cover the section of the trail from the north end of Ohio Street Beach down to where the Ogden Slip is located, and is expected to be completed by late 2015/early 2016.
