A five story, 20 unit apartment building could soon replace the Ace Furniture in Buena Park at 4027 N. Broadway. A preliminary proposal by developer Akara Partners and designed by Studio Dwell Architects would have a mix of 1, 2, 3 and 4-bedroom units, according to the Buena Park Neighbors community organization. First renderings show a dark brick and glass façade. Community members asked Akara at a meeting this month to consider putting retail on the first floor. The development would also require a zoning change allowing for a higher-density development, DNAinfo is reporting. A commenter on the hyperlocal site Uptown Update called the block surrounding the furniture shop a "dead zone for retail space." Could an enticing addition to the area change that around, or would new retail end up boarded-up and forgotten?
