DePaul Unveils Updated Renders of César Pelli Designed Arena

New, 9 comments

DePaul University has released updated renderings of its future arena, which will become the centerpiece of the $400 million McCormick Place entertainment district. The arena, formally named McCormick Place Event Center and designed by Connecticut- based starchitecture outfit Pelli Clarke Pelli, has received a few aesthetic changes since renderings first appeared last September. The arena's roof has been altered, with a tighter, more exaggerated sloping surface. Inside of the arena, the new renderings offer a bit more detail than the previous images, and show a design that looks very similar to its previous mock-up, minus the placement of support pillars. Construction is estimated to cost $173M with DePaul kicking in $70M. McPier is aiming for a Spring 2017 completion of the McCormick Place overhaul.
