Johnny's Grill, a long time anchor of Kedzie Boulevard, and symbol of Logan Square, has abruptly closed. A sign indicating that the space is for rent was spotted this morning in the windows of the old diner. Last week, rumors about the possible closing of restaurant that made a cameo in the Art Institute's ad campaign for the Edward Hopper exhibition in 2008 started making their rounds on Everyblock, and today it has been confirmed that indeed, Johnny's has shuttered.
It has been a big week for gentrification in Logan Square. Earlier this week, it was announced that the long blighted Milshire Hotel would be closing and now DNAinfo is reporting that the old hotel on Milwaukee Avenue is highly likely to be scooped up and redeveloped by mega-landlord Mark Fishman. In addition to the shuttering of Johnny's Grill and the Milshire Hotel, the popular dive bar and music venue, The Mutiny also went up for sale this week. Big changes are in store for the northwest side neighborhood known for its rough edges.
