Roundy's chief Bob Mariano has confirmed that the company will be indeed constructing a brand spankin' new Mariano's grocery store in Bronzeville on land owned by the Chicago Housing Authority. The Ida B. Wells Homes were completely demoed by the city in 2011, and since then Mariano's parent Roundy's and Wal-Mart have both expressed interest in opening locations on the site, but at this time Mariano's is the only retailer that has confirmed a new store for the location. The new Mariano's which will be built on a now vacant parcel of land near Pershing Road and King Drive will employ upwards of 400 people and construction is expected to begin first thing next year.
