The old Cubs-Sox rivalry is one of the most famous in baseball, and to see exactly where fans of both teams live, the New York Times has made a comprehensive map that color codes every single zip code in the country with its residents' preferred baseball team. Not surprisingly, the North Side is dominated by Cubs fans and South Siders have a strong preference for their White Sox. However, once we begin to look at the zip codes downtown, the numbers become nearly equal, looking something like a no man's land of the old rivalry. There is one unique hold out on the South Side as well. According to the data, folks in and around Hyde Park appear to be Cubs fans. How the heck is this possible? This does not compute with the stereotype of Hyde Park residents. The truth can sometimes be stranger than fiction.
