A developer has recently unveiled plans to build the largest new apartment building in Logan Square since the 2006 real estate crash. Savoy Development wants to erect a five story building at 2332-40 N. California Avenue, which will contain 63 studio and 3 one-bedroom apartments. According to paperwork from the developer, the plan is to license the Amstadter Architects designed development as a single resident occupancy (SRO) project, but operate it like any other apartment building. The plan, tentatively called California Studios, presents a high density development with its 66 total apartment units and 10 parking spots, and the developer is looking to apply for a greater Minimum Lot Area (MLA) via the city's Transit Oriented Development (TOD) ordinance. A car wash currently sits at the location. The plan will be presented at the upcoming Greater Goethe Neighborhood Association (GGNA) Zoning and Planning Committee meeting Monday evening (April 28) at 6:30pm at Haas Park.
