UCAN, an organization that provides assistance to at-risk youth, ended a fundraising effort yesterday after having raised $34.4 million to build a new campus on a 7.5 acre site in North Lawndale. The new HQ for the social service organization will provide shelter for 70 at-risk people between the ages of 7 and 18 years ago, and include a sizable green space to be used by UCAN and the surrounding community. The Johnson & Lee designed campus will be located near the Fillmore Street and Independence Boulevard intersection and is aiming for a June 2015 completion date for its first phase.
