Chicago, The Nation's Most Affordable Housing Market?

New, 2 comments

MLS website and online brokerage, ZipRealty has recently named Chicago as the most affordable housing market in the nation. What about Detroit, Cleveland, or any of the other midwestern cities where homes are clearly more affordable than Chicago's you ask? It seems like every day there's a new list released by an MLS site that makes sweeping claims utilizing the data they've collected from only their site, so is this list yet another instance of bold generalizations? According to this new report, ZipRealty looked at the top 30 metro areas and compared the median home sales price data from these regions with the estimated family income data from the Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) and after crunching the numbers, Chicago came out on top. The most expensive metro regions in the US are mostly on the west coast, with Orange County, San Francisco and Los Angeles taking the top three spots.
