Special Olympics Chicago is making quick work of their plans to create an athletic facility to consolidate all training and competitive activities, and has recently unveiled a preliminary Perkins + Will design for the new complex. If approved, the athletic facility would be built on a 12 acre stretch of land near 14th and Damen in the Medical District. The $31 million complex would include a 2,800 seat outdoor stadium with a track, a playing field (baseball diamond) and a field house. According to DNAinfo, the facility, which would be used for year-round training, could be completed before 2018 if plans are approved.
