Chicago may have an addiction to big glass boxes, and a developer has recently announced plans to build yet another boxy, glassy residential tower at 1061-1107 W. Van Buren Street, across the highway from UIC. Yesterday, we noticed a flyer with details for a community meeting regarding the new 32 story tower on the West Loop Community Organization's website that included a rendering of the proposed glass box for the Near West Side. Ok, so it's totally a box, it's more like two Tetris pieces coming together. The building does make a statement however, and would tower over nearly everything else in sight. Either way, a community meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9 at the Merit School of Music where Pizzuti Companies, the developer, will officially introduce the proposed residential tower and reveal more info about the plan.
