New, 5 comments

Get ready young athletes, Special Olympics Chicago is in preliminary stages of consolidating all of its training and competition activities under one roof. According to Crain's, the nonprofit organization is currently eyeing a large stretch of vacant land near 14th and Damen, in the Medical District. The Special Olympics were created by Eunice Kennedy Shriver and its Chicago offshoot has been held in various locations around the city since 1968. However, the new plan is for the organization to have a home of its own. The new complex would contain an outdoor stadium, a playing field and a field house to the tune of $30 million. Chicago's famous Polar Plunge, which Late Night host Jimmy Fallon participated in this year, is an annual fundraiser for the Chicago Special Olympics.
