[Western and Bloomingdale bridge demo before and after ]

Over the weekend, a city demolition crew pulverized an old bridge at Western and Bloomingdale Avenues to make way for the shiny new overpass that will become part of the ambitious rails-to-trails project, The 606. Once completed, the project formerly known (and still referred to) as The Bloomingdale trail will be a three mile trail/continuous park space that will connect several north and northwest side neighborhoods to each other. Construction of the $91 million project began last summer and official word states that completion of the sprawling park and trail is expected by this autumn.
