Children's Memorial Deal Gets Plan Commission Vote Today

New, 6 comments

The two and a half year fight over the redevelopment of the old Children's Memorial Hospital site is only a couple of steps away from its conclusion. Developer Daniel McCaffery will present his team's $300 million proposal to the Chicago Plan Commission this afternoon, who would then kick the deal over to the City Council's Zoning Committee for its final approval and zoning change later this month. Last week, Mayor Emanuel came out as a supporter of the plan to build two 19 story towers and a five story health center, boosting speculation that the plan would sail through the Plan Commission today. Though the mayor's support has been viewed as a game changer, many Lincoln Park residents have vowed to continue the fight against this redevelopment deal until the very end.
