Wicker Park, Bucktown and south Logan Square residents will soon be seeing construction crews at their Blue Line platforms. The CTA has approved, and awarded contracts for station renovation and new artwork for the Damen, Western and California Blue Line stations. As a part of the CTA's Your New Blue program, the three stations will receive makeovers to the tune of $25.6 million. The city has set aside a whopping total of $492 million from the RTA and federal grants for Blue Line renovations over the next four years, and announced the major overhaul of the deteriorating transit line back in December. In addition to the renovation of the 120 year old L stations, which will include pigeon poop removal, window and door replacement, platform replacement and new staircases that don't feel like impending death traps, the program has tapped local artists to spruce up the interior aesthetics of the stations to reflect the changing neighborhood demographics. The CTA plans to host neighborhood meetings this spring to mull over details regarding the artwork and hopes to release renderings of the new stations later in the year.
