The first look at the new "Southwest Area School" hinted at by CPS came during the Plan Commission last week, according to Chicago Architecture Blog. Designed by STR Partners, responsible for numerous area education projects such as the Calmeca Academy of Fine Arts and Dual Langauge and the Sarah E. Goode STEM Academy, the colorful new school will house 1,500 students and is scheduled for completion in January 2017. The existing play lot will be converted into dual-use baseball and softball diamonds that can also be used for football and soccer. Released last week, these renderings are the first look at the school, initially proposed by CPS last year.
