Former DraftFCB HQ Near Mag Mile to Become a Conrad Hotel

New, 4 comments

As the year approaches its end, Chicago's hotel boom is still going strong. Earlier this week, hotelier Laurence Geller announced plans to convert the former DraftFCB office tower at 101 E. Erie Street into a Conrad Hotel. The vacant 224,000 square foot building right off the Magnificent Mile will eventually make way for 290 hotel rooms. According to Crain's, the plan is to move the existing Conrad Hotel at 521 N. Rush Street to the new location on Erie, however the Tribune reports that the new Conrad will become the city's second, leaving the Rush Street location untouched. Either way, there's certainly no doubt at this point that Chicago's hotel boom is hitting critical mass. The old DraftFCB HQ is expected to begin its makeover process early next year.
