Running across much of Chicago, Kedzie Avenue threads through numerous neighborhoods and cultures, providing an artery for narratives as well as transport. The reporters and artists of Illustrated Press want to bring the stories of this street to life with a new graphic novel project currently seeking funding on Kickstarter. Composed of DNAinfo's Logan Square and Humboldt Park reporter Darryl Holliday and illustrator E. N. Rodriguez, this new-style journalism collective has been pushing the boundaries of this type of graphic storytelling with features such as "How to survive a shooting" for the Chicago Reader. Kedzie Avenue would bring together a year's worth of reporting in a perfect-bound book to examine issues of homelessness, changing neighborhoods and gun violence.
Backers pledging $25 or more before the Kickstarter campaign ends on Dec. 23 will receive a copy of the book, which now has a planned fall 2015 release date.
