Skaters blissfully enjoying the stunning views from the new skating ribbon at Maggie Daley Park may not realize all the history buried beneath the ice. The parkland was once part of Lake Michigan until it was filled in with debris from the Chicago Fire, and in a retail title bout in the late 1880s, park advocate Aaron Montgomery Ward forced Marshall Field to keep his museum off this part of the lakefront.
