Construction to Start on Affordable Housing Project in Pilsen

A new affordable housing development is ready to grow legs in Pilsen. Dubbed Casa Querétaro, the four story housing project from local affordable housing developer The Resurrection Project (TRP) will deliver 45 units in the form of a LEED Silver certified structure at the northwest corner of 17th Street and Damen Avenue. The vacant parcel was once a silo yard that served the rail industry, and then later became a city-owned property. TRP purchased the property from the city for $1 to begin the process of transforming the lot into a new housing development.

The new development will feature a mixture of one, two and three bedroom units, with 15 of the 45 units reserved for Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) tenants. The project will also feature a landscaped courtyard and will include 32 parking spaces on a surface lot.

Last week, TRP received its first construction permit for the project, which allows the developer to begin foundation work. Construction will continue throughout 2015, and TRP anticipates leasing units by May 2016.
