It may not look like much, but the squat one story home at 4618 West Armitage Avenue in Hermosa is actually one of the oldest homes in Chicago. Known as the James Von Natta House, the home was built in 1858 and has been around for over 150 years, and even pre-dates the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. However, its future is currently unknown, as a demolition permit was issued last week to wreck and remove the home. The Google Street View captured in July of this year shows lumber and building supplies in the home's front lawn, indicating that a new construction may be planned for the site. As of Friday, demolition of the home had not started, but the home could be turned into a pile of rubble shortly.
