Group Proposes Downtown Rapid Streetcar 'Superloop'

New, 29 comments

The mayor wants to make the Museum Campus easier to get to, and proposals to make this idea happen are starting to come in. A group called the Chicago Streetcar Renaissance has proposed a 20th Century solution that was once a major mode of transportation in major American cities - the streetcar. The organization envisions a route that connects the Museum Campus with Navy Pier, and the larger transportation hubs located in West Loop (Union Station, Ogilvie Transportation Center, the Green Line). The streetcars would run in dedicated lanes, and take tourists, business travelers and others coming from the suburbs directly to the attractions and buildings that they want to go to. Chicago has always been, and still is a major rail center for the country, so bringing back streetcars would only add to the reputation, right? Other cities are doing just that.
