The Gold Coast will soon be welcoming a shiny new 25 story glass tower at 1149-67 N. State Street as the Chicago Plan Commission recently approved the project. In contrast to the historic mansions and storefronts located around and near the stretch, the contemporary blue-colored glass structure designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz will contain 35 luxury condos set atop a podium that will double as retail store fronts and a 74 space parking garage (sorry, residents only).
Condos are planned to be a spacious 3,300 square feet and each floor will only hold two units. The building's asymmetrical stacked glass box design has alternating in-set corner balconies which are intended to provide more sweeping views. Just blocks away from the Viagra Triangle, the project when completed will be the first high rise condo development in the Gold Coast since the recession according to Crain's.
