West Town Keeps Arguing Over Budget, Border for Special Tax

The debate about a special tax district is set to continue tonight in West Town, with a community meeting scheduled to hear both support, opposition, and everything else in between. In a nutshell, they are debating whether to keep a special property tax that helps pay for "neighborhood improvements" like snow removal, decorative banners, branded garbage cans, street sweeping, facade improvement and street festivals, among other things. Some argue that city tax dollars just don't cover enough, and want to renew this special tax for 15 more years, while also expanding the district of people paying for and benefitting from it. Residents not previously in the disctrict will be facing/arguing over a possible 12 percent increase in their property tax bill tonight and at second meeting January 21.
