A preservation collision has occurred between operators of the new Langham Chicago hotel and the City's Landmarks Commission. The upper crust hotel opened in July on the lower floors of Mies' IBM building at 330 N Wabash. The hotel has caught flak for its streetfront signage and plush, luxurious lobby (anathema to Miesian design), but those elements have cleared Landmarks review. The panel drew a line at a proposed sculptural installation meant to occupy the spare plaza. [Crain's, photo illustration via Crain's, previously]
