The ranking of downtown Chicago's 10 most expensive rental buildings needs regular updating with the rapid foresting of River North and The Loop with new towers. Crain's has the latest, which puts 500 North Lake Shore Drive at the top at $3.47/sf and features six newly-built buildings. The average rent across the top 10 was $2,800/month and the average unit size 898 square feet. Just months ago, 1225 Old Town's $3.04/sf net rent had it placing second.
