The two-story brutalist building that served as the Hull House Association's Uptown outpost for many years as well as a center for local theater productions is being razed as we speak. Uptown Update caught wind of the demolition, which theater advocates and historic preservationists had hoped to prevent. Whether too late to the game or lacking sufficient weaponry, no protection was won for the building. Thus, new landowner and developer David Gassman will return the site to residential use (as it was prior to the 1960s) with a plan for a 4-story, 24-unit rental building.
