The nebulous high-rise component of the Lathrop Homes redevelopment continues to rankle neighbors and Ald. Scott Waguespack (32nd). The final submitted plan by Lathrop Community Partners calls for roughly 1,200 rental units of mixed affordability new green spaces, retail, a revamped riverwalk, and a mix of old and new structures. But planners never specified the height of the lone high-rise planned for the property's southernmost point, merely calling it "iconic". As DNAinfo reports, that uncertainty has Waguespack and a band of constituents attempting to pull the plug. Meanwhile, others are focused on bringing more affordable housing to the mix.
