3,800-Square-Foot Duplex Falls to $350K in Hyde Park

New, 9 comments

A Hype Park duplex condo with 20' vaulted ceilings, towering windows, and a "Castle Frankenstein Fireplace" (as a Curbed commenter put it), has seen its asking price slashed 60% since January. Assessments, however, are stubbornly set at $1,758/month. Imparting 3,800 square feet with three beds and four-and-a-half baths, you'd think manufacturing a mirror illusion to double the living room's size would come off as absurd. It does, but it's a fine piece of absurdity powerful enough to fool the lazy onlooker. The condo's other spaces are delicate, vintage showpieces offering little to fuss about. The unit is on the 'B' side of the building, which we're thinking strikes any full-on views of the Museum of Science and Industry as obtained in another listed 3-bed duplex, asking $949K. It's astounding to have comparable, neighboring units sitting so far apart in price.
