Denizens of Rogers Park are set to get their beef on this Sunday with a protest march in opposition to Col. Jennifer N. Pritzker's (formerly James) quest to build a four-story, 250-space parking structure on the site of the current Shambhala Meditation Center at 7331 N Sheridan Road. The handsome mansion is typical of N Sheridan's upper reaches, and, ironically, Pritzker would have this structure demolished while her firm Tawani Enterprises meticulously restores Frank Lloyd Wright's neighboring Emil Bach House. Partly, Pritzker feels the neighborhood (and the soon-to-open Bach House museum) needs parking, and, partly, Ald. Joe Moore feels the need to appease Pritzker considering the breadth of her local investments. The neighbors organizing Sunday's rally, which begins at Loyola Park on Touhy at 1pm and ends at the Shambhala Center, are doing so on grounds that the garage will clash with the large-lot, residential character of Sheridan, will add noise and pollution, and will compromise pedestrian safety. Their aim now that Ald. Moore has signed on is to appeal to reason and to a September 20th Zoning Board hearing, according to a press release.
