The Trump Tower probably should shoulder much of the blame for facilitating routinely preposterous downtown rents (even though it's a condo building), and now those prices have leaked over to 500 North Lake Shore Drive. Related Midwest (who advertises on Curbed) developed 500 N LSD on the site of failed condo project The Peshtigo. The glassy edifice rises 47 stories with 500 apartments at Grand & the Lake. The luxury building offers plenty of unit choice and is leasing up quickly by all accounts. We made mention of the penthouse floors and specifically the crowning 3/3 unit in our last post, but thanks to a Chicago Mag visit, we now have the listing in hand.
There are no balconies at 500 N LSD, but 13-foot floor-to-ceiling windows encompassing two building corners is a pretty good compromise. This is the priciest penthouse, at $18,000/month, and spans 2,800 square feet with plank flooring, designer finishes, and private elevator access. Dennis Rodkin claims to have picked out shoreline structures in Michigan on his clear day of shooting. But still, $18K? As Rodkin points out with apparent amusement, the smaller (only $1,550 square feet) and equally-luxurious two-bed penthouse next door rents for just $10,500. Or try the lower floor studios, starting at under $2,000.
