35-Story Rental Tower at State & Chestnut Lines up Permits

New, 39 comments

The 35-story 367-unit apartment tower slated for the recently-flattened lot at State & Chestnut has its final permit approvals for foundation and superstructure work. Newcastle Ltd. purchased the lot from Loyola and the two are moving lockstep on construction projects— Loyola's being the neighboring 10-story Quinlan School of Business, at State & Pearson. We'd expect to see Loyola's top out first as the school intends to break ground this fall, permits pending. Solomon Cordwell Buenz (SCB) designed the glass tower w/ a slender face and broad body, not unlike their creation at 73 E Lake. There's also a podium-top amenity deck, a routine occurrence in new residential construction. And what of that big "S" (or at least the top of an "S") carved into the south elevation? How slick and suggestive. A tip of the hat to Skyscraper Page user marothisu.
