3-Bed Triplex Asks $800K at Stately Newberry Mansion

New, 5 comments

The 1878 Newberry Mansion at Dearborn & Chestnut was converted to six condos in the 1980s. At least one unit still owns that decor, and the listing agent for the 2,500-square-foot, three-bed triplex must think the expanse of carpet and '80s cabinetry is best conceived as a "black palette". "Bring your design team" and do something about all the ghastly white walls, large windows, high ceilings, and wood-burning fireplaces! And it'd really be a great shame if the roof deck were lost to the '80s, too. In February 2011, a three-bed, 2.5-bath unit with contemporary decor was priced at $915K, so an $800K ask is quite grounded for today's larger space.
