The all-residential second phase of the Gateway development at Madison & Green has been pared down again in advance of a Tuesday community meeting. A rendering brought forth by Skyscraper Page's Spyguy depicts the rental tower as a benign 17-story glass building occupying the now-vacant lot at the northern edge of Mariano's Fresh Market (Gateway, phase one). A February meeting yielded uniform opposition to the then-20 story proposal. Neighbors weren't about to green light the march of residential towers west of Halsted, nor did they fancy the dismissal of the Gateway's hotel component. Despite cutting the building's height nearly in half over a three-year span (30 to 17 stories), developer Sy Taxman and architect Antunovich Associates still face a stiff breeze at tomorrow's meeting. We'll keep you posted!
