The first planting of McCormick Place's massive rooftop garden has hit harvest. Covering a half-acre, the new operation is spearheaded by the Chicago Botanic Garden and gives job training to Cook County ex-offenders. The convention center's primary caterer will use the thousands of pounds of produce generated annually and the farm eventually hopes to grow to span the full three acres of usable roof.
